The state scholarship support section is divided into one to eight sections, including those for the basic livelihood subsidy and those for the next higher class, depending on household income. Eight sections have the highest income, and five sections are considered middle class. Last year, students from basic livelihood recipients to six districts received more than 3.68 million won per year, half of the tuition at private universities. This year, it will apply up to six sections. However, as the scope of the six sections is increasing this year, the number of students who will benefit is expected to increase as well. The Education Ministry expects a total of 690,000 students to receive a substantial half-price tuition.
